Care-Med provides a Pedorthist Foot Assessment tailored to individuals with unique needs. Our comprehensive assessment, performed by a qualified Canadian Certified Pedorthist and Chiropodist, is critical in determining the most effective treatment solutions and designing appropriate orthotic footwear.

During the foot assessment, we gather patient history to identify patterns and factors that contribute to the medical condition. We check symptoms, previous injuries, occupation, and other relevant factors.

What is a Pedorthic Assessment?

A Pedorthist Assessment is a comprehensive evaluation of an individual’s feet and lower extremities, conducted by a qualified pedorthist. The purpose of the assessment is to identify any abnormalities or conditions that may be affecting the individual’s ability to walk or perform other activities, and to determine whether a customized foot orthotic or other assistive device may be beneficial.

During a Pedorthic Foot Assessment, the Pedorthist will take a detailed medical history, assess the individual’s gait and balance, examine the feet and lower extremities for signs of deformity or misalignment, and may perform a variety of tests to evaluate joint mobility, muscle strength, and other factors.

Based on the findings of the assessment, the pedorthist may recommend a customized foot orthotic or other assistive device, and will work with the individual to ensure a proper fit and to provide ongoing support and follow-up care as needed.

What to Expect at the Pedorthist Appointment

Typically, a Pedorthic Assessment lasts anywhere from 30 to 60 minutes. The Pedorthist will begin by conducting a comprehensive history-taking process to identify patterns and underlying causes of your pain. They will ask targeted questions about:

  • Symptoms
  • Previous injuries
  • Family history
  • Systemic diseases
  • Lifestyle and activities
  • Occupation
  • Footwear

After obtaining your medical history, the Pedorthist will perform a series of weight-bearing and non-weight-bearing tests, including:

  • Testing the range of motion in your feet and ankles to ensure that each joint has full movement
  • Evaluating the strength of certain muscles
  • Identifying the type of foot you have, whether it’s normal, flat, or high-arched
  • Examining for any bony prominences, swelling, or discoloration
  • Assessing the alignment of your knees and lower back
  • Analyzing your gait and running mechanics, particularly the position of your foot at each phase of the step
